Martley birdscarers are very effective on many pests and use a variety of deterrent effects on most units. Pests, particularly birds, have excellent eye sight, typically 8 times better than a young person. Our bird scarers exploit this with a 100 hertz strobe light, which, depending on the model, flashes when sounding. On silent units it is programmed for intermittent use.

Sound is useful as it alerts the pest to look at the flash, which improves the efficiency, but obviously some areas cannot tolerate noise. What is most important is the sound, pests soon get used to loud bangs, distress calls often attract other pests to find out what's happening, and see if there's a free meal in some cases! Depending on the problem, Martley's range include predator calls broadcast at totally randomised timings, all automatically, and with a volume control. Synthesised sounds can also be switched into operation, which are useful on some pests. All sound units have this option.

When sound cannot be used, in some cases ultrasonic sound (sometimes referred to as UHF sound) certainly improves the efficiency. And, as it operates 24 hours per day, is excellent at shifting indoor birds considering roosting or nesting. A useful bonus too, is the fact that on Martley units, we enhance the frequency range to be effective on rodents.

These units produce a high level of high frequency sound which has been proven to be an effective deterrent against birds. In addition, they use a mimimal amount (around 24 seconds per hour) of audible gull distress calls which is designed to blend in with the environment so as not to cause a nuisance effect, together they create a very high level of protection against seagulls. Whilst the ultrasonic sound is produced constantly to offer protection around the clock, the audible sounds are automatically stopped at dusk and restarted at dawn, however, this can be controlled manually with the On/Off/Volume switch if so required. The device is designed with low power consumption in mind and will work for weeks on a 60 Ah battery should mains not be available. Placement with good line of sight of the problem area is essential for effective operation of ultrasonics, the speakers with the MPS range are small seperate units giving flexible, easier positioning options with a range of up to approx. 50 ft.
