The repeller uses two different deterrent effects: ultrasonic sound and electromagnetic.

Ultrasonic sound is emitted from the two speakers on the front and will help deter pests locally to the device. As ultrasonic sound doesn't not penetrate solid objects, the sound will be contained within the room where the repeller is plugged in.

Electromagnetic signals are sent around the wiring of the property and will reach areas that are unseen and not accessible by ultrasonic sound.
